At North Carolina's Small Wonder
Trade the stress of everyday life for the laid-back atmosphere of Kure Beach, North Carolina’s small wonder. Located at the southern tip of Pleasure Island, Kure Beach is filled with a lot of what you're hoping to find on a vacation or getaway: beautiful, natural surroundings with vistas of the ocean and the river; an aquarium and ocean front park; and the kind of local character that seems to have all but disappeared from coastal towns.Get away to North Carolina’s best beach playground this spring.
Visit Kure Beach’s largest public green space, Ocean Front Park, where you can stroll along the boardwalk, check out the playground, or listen to music ocean side at the Boogie in the Park Concert series starting in May.
New creatures will make their home at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as a new butterfly house and garden featuring 174 species of exotic butterflies opens in April and a majestic bald eagle will also makes its nest at the aquarium this spring. Visit in May for a day of fishing, food and fun on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier at the Cape Fear Disabled Fishing Tournament.
Come face to face with live alligator feedings and hands-on exploration of bonnet sharks to live diving exhibits and up-close-and-personal encounters with sea turtles at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, named one of the best aquariums in the U.S. by the Travel Channel. Peek into the past under the towering, wind-swept live oak trees that surround the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Museum. Explore the grounds of the largest land-sea battle of the Civil War and commemorate the upcoming 150th Anniversary of the Civil War in North Carolina with the reenactment of the fall of Fort Fisher.
Turn off the gadgets and enjoy the views from the seaside benches and playground at the new Ocean Front Park. Reel in the catch of the day along the 712-foot Kure Beach Fishing Pier, one of the oldest on the Atlantic Coast. Hop on the ferry and take in the natural beauty of the area or test your skills on the area’s only disc golf course.
Or do nothing at all as Kure Beach provides a relaxed haven for you and your family. Stay in a mom-and-pop motel, condo or quaint cottage rental, and dine at one of our locally owned restaurants serving the fresh catch of the day - all of your lodging and dining options are just a short walk, drive or bike ride from any part of town.
